SCBWI Western Washington Regional Programming

SCBWI Western Washington offers regional programming throughout the year.

In particular, SCBWI WWA hosts monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of every month from September through May, excluding April (when we’ll hold our annual conference instead). These Professional Series Meetings typically include two 45-minute sessions or a 30-minute “mini-session” and a 60-minute main program, with a brief business meeting between. We bring in at least one professional speaker for each program, and sometimes several panelists. At January’s unique and popular meeting, we host “The Great Critique”—the ultimate critique experience, in which seasoned writers and illustrators lead small groups to provide feedback on your work. We have quite a lineup for the 2010-2011 program year! For complete details, see Monthly Meetings.

SCBWI International members or nonmembers alike may wish to buy a passport to these Professional Series Meetings. The cost of the passport is only $35 for SCBWI International members (full or associate) and $40 for nonmembers—an incredible bargain. To attend individual Professional Series Meetings as a visitor, you’d pay $8 (members) or $10 (non-members) per meeting. Attending even a handful of the eight meetings we’re holding this year makes up for the price of the passport.*

SCBWI WWA regional programming for the 2011-2012 year includes:

  • The Chinook newsletter: This high-quality newsletter provides craft articles, meeting and workshop summaries, interviews, and much more.

  • The Chinook Update blog: A supplement to The Chinook, this blog compiles important, time-sensitive news, market updates, and information about children’s books and the people who create them. The editor scours various industry publications, blogs, bookstore sites, and more to provide a convenient summary and links.

  • Critique group support: Get help finding a critique group—face-to-face or online.

  • Advance notice of events: SCBWI International members (first) and passport holders (second) will receive advance notice about the many valuable programs we offer throughout the year, such as our annual conference, master classes, professional retreats, and the Inside Story.

  • Local networking and connections: SCBWI WWA regional programming helps you stay up to date, keeping you in touch with peers and professionals to help you hone your craft and market your work.

  • Submission rights for the Chinook Update blog: This news blog, updated at least weekly, compiles important, time-sensitive news, market updates, and information about children’s books and the people who create them. SCBWI members can help shape the Chinook Update and promote their careers by submitting their own publication news, event invitations, classes, and other contributions.
